THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD

Fly over the 12 Apostles

{0 Comments}

Walking trails along Victoria’s south coast take you to the cliff edge or down to the beach, but the treacherous nature of Victoria’s coastline makes it difficult to absorb the true greatness of the magical 12 Apostles. This explains why scenic flights are so popular in the region. Kitted out with a leather jacket, Adventure Flight Co’s single engine 1964 Grumman Ag Cat bi-plane is particular thrilling, a visual feast while you experience the joys of old world, open-cockpit flying.

Length of Trip : Factor in an hour or more for a scenic flight. The Great Ocean Road itself can be experienced from a long day trip or a week-long plus road trip adventure.

Note from Robin :
The 12 Apostles refer to eight large limestone stacks that guard the coast, eroded and battered by the ocean. There used to be more; a large stack collapsed as recently as 2005. Over the years, the stacks have gone by various names – the Sow and Piglets, the Pinnacles - as have the individual sentinels themselves.
