A Gentle Flight

Balloon in the Barossa

{0 Comments}

Soar over the famous vineyards of the Barossa Valley, or drift with the cool morning winds just metres above the mightiest river in the nation. Ballooning is the only form of flight that won’t so much cause a ripple in the waters of the Murray River beneath you. It is the merlot of soft adventures: definitely quaffable, largely inoffensive, and always good in a pinch. It is also romantically stunning: witness a spinning top canvas elevating a picnic basket of passengers, feeling bursts of heat on their necks in the cold early morning. After a fabulous flight, enjoy a champagne breakfast in one of Australia’s premier wine regions.

Length of Trip : Flights typically last about an hour, but factor in 3-4 hours for the set-up, orientation, transfers and breakfast.

Where to Stay :
In Adelaide, we recommend our partner the Oaks Hotels, either downtown at the central Oaks Embassy: or in lovely Glenelg at the Oaks Plaza Pier on the beachfront. In the Barossa, we recommend the cabins or glamping at the family friendly Discovery Parks in Tanunda.

Getting There :
You start and finish at 71 Stonewell Road, Nuriootpa, which is just over an hour's drive from the Adelaide CBD.

Note from Robin :
Ballooning is very weather dependent. Some days you'll fly, others you might not. You typically confirm with the operator on the morning of your departure, which makes for an early morning (and a beautiful sunrise!). It might be chilly in the morning so wear layers, and a hat will protect your head and neck from the intense heat of the burner. After your flight, spend the day checking out the wineries in the famous Barossa.
